Heh, then we wouldn't have to give up a percentage of our salary, would we?

If God exists in the Christian perspective that I think I understand, then, God is a completely perfect being - in no need of any external paycheck whatsoever.
However, being a creative being, if he chose to create us for a good and loving relationship - relationships are only good if there is give and take (prehaps better if they are give and give). If God is a perfect being then our prayers would seem to be a form of giving him what he already deserves - praise, thanks, admiration and our return of his love.

Prayer is not God's Salary. God enjoys his/her job, and doesnt require it. That and he/she doesnt need it, when god can just create whatever is needed.
