I used to use about 4-5 Megapixel cameras for eBay, but quickly realized that that is way too much. Some cameras have the option of shrinking or shooting at much lower settings that get good sharable pictures. 640x480 pixels should do, though if you want a lot of detail slightly higher settings work fine. Macro settings help with close-ups. There are lots of cheap cameras that can do the job, so don't spend a fortune on the camera.

You don't need a camera, you need digital photos.
You can get digital photos from cameras, but also from photos scanned in with a scanner.
If you are purchasing a camera for this purpose, choose the most mega-pixels you can afford up to 5 mp. If you plan to make a lot of money and take a lot of pictures, then spend more, but also get a good picture editing program. Adobe Photoshop Elements can be had for less than $100.00 and you can do a lot with it.
If you don't plan to make a lot of money and don't plan to spend a lot, borrow someone's camera and find someone with a photo editing program you can borrow. If you already have a standard photo camera, take your pictures and you can get the photos in digital form at the photo developer or scan them it with a scanner.

Any digital camera will do. The images are so small, that the resolution of the camera doesn't matter - even 3 mega pixels is overkill.
If you sell a lot of small items, get a camera that has a 'macro' feature for close up photography.

any digicam will do - in case you get a extra moderen form with intense decision, only confirm you do no longer use it, because of the fact the photographs are too super for ebay. 640x480 or 800x600 resolutions are plenty for ebay.
