Usually you are born into it, like a lot of religions. You tend to believe what your parents believe in fact you are sort of brainwashed into a faith because you do not know better, and you lack the tools to figure out what is right for you.
Later as you mature you then begin to realize that what you have been taught could possibly be not what you believe for yourself and you find a religion or set of beliefs that is right for you.
So, usually you are born into it, but later on if it appeals to your personal beliefs you can join it.
Often when one is catholic, for marriage and the other partner is not they can become through classes join the church.

You can join any church but I cannot think of any reason anyone would want to join the Catholic Church if they were to study the bible and see what it says. Not the people that are bad but he system. They claim the power to change God's law, to be able to forgive sin, to be God on Earth. When Jesus, who was God, forgave sin or claimed the office to which He was in, He was accused of blasphemy, yet He was God and had the power. Who gives the Catholic church the powers they claim to have? Where do you find anything in the bible that goes with their teachings and traditions? No, you do not have to be born into it but I would really think about it before doing it and study the bible first.

I converted to Catholicism 23 years ago. There are many converts every year. Ask a priest when they are having RCIA classes. You go to class to learn about the faith. In the end you decide whether to join or not.
Peace Be With You,

you can join, all catholic churches have classes that will teach you the tenets of our faith and guide you through the catechism and help you understand the church's core teachings
the best thing you can do if you'd like to be a catholic is to start attending masses, if you feel it is the faith for you, call the office of the church and inquire about the classes, some churches will put together a weekly bulletin and they will list when/where/how these classes are
good luck

The Roman Catholic church would be overjoyed if you joined. You certainly do not have to be "born into" any organized religion.
They would be glad to take your money ($$$), regardless of who you are.....

Yes, you can become a Catholic. All you need to do is go to church and sign up for the class. It takes about a year to become a Catholic, they teach all about their religion, their practices and why they do what they do. I would say if you are serious about it go for it. God bless you.

Yes, you can choose to become Catholic, but there are several commitments you have to make before they will accept you. I was put off by the required lobotomy.
