I am puzzled over the results I got when using two programmes to check for registry errors.
I used the free, evaluation version of Registry Cleaner to scan the registry. It listed 58 problems, and corrected 20 of them, leaving 38 uncorrected.
Then I did a scan with Registry Mechanic (which I bought). The results for this were 14 problems. It fixed them all.
Then I did ANOTHER scan with Registry Cleaner. It said there were still 23 faults.
How can this be? Do the two programmes check the registry in a different way, or does one of them do a more thorough check than the other?
Is it worth buying Registry Cleaner when I already Registry Mechanic?
And does anyone know of a similar programme that they believe can do a better check of a computer registry than the ones I have tried?

Those programs are made to sell to paranoid people, they don't need to really do anything.

I bought Registry Mechanic and find it does a good job of cleaning out all the crap in my system's registry. I have had no problems with this program.
I also tried CCleaner (a free registry cleaner) and found that this worked just as well, and has the added bonus of a temporary files cleaner.
I feel that they are both useful tools if used correctly, certainly after a program uninstall (which always leaves some crap behind).
Programs like HijackThis are not for the fainthearted, or novice users.

It all depend on how program rate a registry progblem as a fault. In my opinion if you do not expierence any program crashes you should not need to fix your registry.

Your PC should not expierence any serious registry errors that cause the PC to crash, only case is when your PC has been turned off without shutdown, harddisk failed to recover registry files. So left with a corrupt registry.

in my opinion, each program has different functionality and it depends on the procedure that software uses to discover and resolve the erros. i'd tried a lot of registry software like: registry mechanic, registry cleaner, system mechanic, advanced system optimizes etc but i finaly chose registry mechanic because it seems to be the safest and least harmful for my computer. of course the number of erros can't be as many as others and it does not repair erros completly

Not as useful as they might sound. You will probably do more harm than good. Hijackthis checks your registry, but you should probably know more about what is going in there before you use it. I don't let any program run in the registry unchecked. It's dangerous.

Registry cleaners do more harm than good. My advice, don't use them at all

My experience - if you've got Registry Mechanic, you've got everything you need. Really increased the speed of mine.

Have you not noticed that they SELL additional software to correct "unknown problems" that may or may not exist?

Just like FREE credit reports. They "detect" errors that may or may not exist. Then they charge one to correct those. Each one separately.
Can you say, "Scam"?
