I have been a smoker my entire adult life. Back when I started it was cool and no one knew about the negitive heath issues. Now thay tell how second hand smoke is just as bad. I feel guilty. Nonsmokers have every right to be up in arms. I have no right to be putting their health in danger. So as smokers we must be satisfied with being chased outside.

I'm a smoker since I was 12 years old, I don't smoke in public places that there are people who don't smoke, if there is an area that has smokers I go there. If I'm in someone elses car or home that dosen't smoke I won't even if they say "you can smoke". I respect them so I think non-smokers should respect us. There are so many issues of choice, I DONOT like to go into a grocery store and see or smell a 300 lb. person filling their cart with fattening food and no soap to wash their stink from the festering fat. I'm trying to shop for food for my family and can't stand to smell rotten fat, but if I waved my hand in front of my face and made an ingnorant comment then they would cry discrimination. I also don't like to smell cheap perfume after someone has bathed in it. If it is a matter of cancer causing issues, do some health research, everyone is born with so many cancer cells it is only a matter of what ones your body fights off wether you die from cancer or not, granted smoking does cause cancer, but so does a lot of things that non-smokers do. Me and the other smokers buying cigs generated more tax revenue in my home town than all property taxes put together. The bottom line is it is my right to smoke, just like people have the right to be fat, ugly, dirty, or just plain ignorant. I do not promote or encourage smoking but if someone smokes and you don't like it, look in the mirror there is something you do that makes other people sick. {disclaimer}

I do not smoke, and I do not tell others to quit if they do smoke. I think people know what is right and wrong..and they will continue to smoke either a) until they are diagnosed with some disease that frightens the bee Jesus outta them or b) until they just die!!!
The only thing that craps me off is when smokers do not give a hoot about the other people they may be affecting through their habit.

Its been two months since my last smoke. My sense of smell and taste are much improved. But smokers are a very interesting bunch of people and I still stand out in the cold along side them for moral support( at work). Let them make up their own minds with out the hard line policy,their taxes have supported others for a long time

The same as it was 20 years ago, or 20 years from now. Smoking provides absolutely no medical benefit and should be prohibitted.
At the very least, the tax on cigarettes should be tripled, and the funds used to offset medical current expenses.
Taxes on profit from tobacco related products should also be increased significantly.
Additionally, anyone who smokes should be forced to sign a waiver stating they will never seek treatment for smoking related diseases,and should be denied that treatment, and they should not be covered by any insurance - there is not way those of us intelligent to not have that addiction should ever cover any of their medical or death expenses in any manner.

I personally don't like cigarettes. However, if people want to smoke go right ahead. Tobacco companies are large contributors to the tax rolls and it is a large export for the US so I don't see cigarettes going away. Everyone knows the health concerns with smoking, so there is no one to blame but yourself for health issues that arise from smoking. I am all for smokers rights.

From my reading regarding blood sugar, I assume that a need for smoking is due to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Something in the act of smoking, and the nicotine helps keep blood sugar balanced.
If that theory is correct, which can be tested by having a doctor test for insulin level (a fasting blood insulin test), which would test high, or a glucose tolerance test of 6 hour length (insist on 6 hours) which should show a drop of more than 50 in a one hour period, or a drop below 70 at any time, then the solution is to eat foods that satisfy a body's need for sugar, or to trick the body into being satisfied with a lower level of sugar.
Check out www.hufa.org for basic info on low blood sugar and addictions of all sorts.

I'm 48, I've been smoking for 37 years, still smoke. I think that tobacco should be banned. There is no other product for daily consumption that is as harmful as tobacco. Former Surgeon, General C. Everett Coop, said that tobacco is as addictive as herion. Tobacco products have caused millions of deaths and billions of dollars in health care. The President, Congress, the FDA should have the guts to ban tobacco. No other such deadly product would ever be allowed to be legally sold over the counter. It's even dangerous to be around people who smoke if you don't. Please don't smoke!

No smoking in my home or car. No smoking in any public places, including outdoor restaurants or concerts or parks, etc.
Smokers can smoke in their home and their car. If they want to poison themselves, it's fine. But they don't get to pollute my air or endanger my life.
And I'm an ex-smoker, so I do understand the addiction.
