Sugar

Select four to five of the most common foods eaten by children. Calculate its sugar content in grams. Pour the same amount of grams of granulated sugar in a see through container.
Ask how many parents feed that to their children. Then show them the sugar container. Finally explain how much sugar is enough sugar on a healthy diet.

I think it creates a visual impact on what is one of the main reasons for obesity.

Of course you could also find pictures of morbidly obese children or testimonials of children who are obese to let your audience get a first hand account of what it feels like to be obese, its physical, social and emotional consequences.

Good luck.

I like the previous person's comment about providing a photo of an obese child. Maybe black out their face or something since you don't have permission to use that person's photo. Another thing you could do is buy maybe 10 products that are currently marketed specifically toward children. You know the ones I'm talking about. Watch half an hour of Nick Jr and you'll see the kind of garbage foods that are marketed toward children. Sugary, nutritionally barren foods in bright colors and even brighter packages, usually with cartoon characters on them, destined to make any shopping trip with mom hell for all the begging. Display these on a table and make some sort of reference to how hard it is to get children to eat proper food when this is all that's available. Combine several thousand calories worth of junk with lack of exercise, and you've got a one way ticket to obesity and Diabetesland.

Oh, and if you make any signage, please spell check your work before displaying it.

I recommend a photo of an obese child. That would get the attention of most of your audience. The statistics on your subject are pretty scary, but statistics can be dry. Use the percentage of children that are obese as an attention grabber if you can't pull off the photo.

From the speech training i've got taken, asking a question interior the beginning up is an interest grabber. case in point, you will possibly be able to desire to ask a question like, "how lots of you recognize that ....?"

Pose a rhetorical question, like "Remember how active kids were before video games came out"? or "When you were a kid how much time did you spend playing games outdoors", these might work.
