Patriarchal societies exist because men are inherently fearful of womens ability to create life and bring it into the world. It makes them feel like bit players on the stage of reality.

For this reason they over compensate and try to make women feel like second class humans because of their fears.

Women really need to organize and force men to allow them more control over government and social welfare decisions.

A carry over from older times when the men were the warriors who protected village and since attacks came at any time were basically under martial law all the time. Not needed anymore but we are still working out of it

The offspring belongs to both sexes the same(equal numbers of chromosomes).

Well, I would imagine because males were (and generally still are) more physically powerful. So if there was any pushing around to do, the men were doing it.
