I became and atheist a couple of years ago, and I don't feel comfortable with the fact that I am confirmed into the Christian faith, as I feel that it belittles the beliefs of those who are Christians, and I don't like feeling tied to something that no longer has any meaning for me. Is it possible to 'reverse' this?

It's just that I want a clean slate - I don't like the idea of my name being down in some Church register. I don't like lying, so people ask, 'Have you been confirmed,' and then assume I'm a Christian. I know, I'm being petty, but it means a lot to me.

Send a letter to the church that you were confirmed in renouncing your membership. Devise a tacky, psychodrama filled Anton LaVey style ritual (without the devil myth) blaspheming all of the symbols you formerly held as important. Pee on a crucifix or somesuch. Thus, you will have cleansed yourself of the filthy teachings of the Pig Nazarene on an emotional and intellectual level. Do not underestimate the power of psychodrama and just because you have made a rational decision, do not discount that your emotions may be subconsciously running in a different direction than your intellect. Cleanse on both levels.

a million: The baptism is to no longer be repeated. All you may do is teach a letter from the church that did it. that's no longer problematic to get carry of. The RCC will take that as that's and not re-baptize. you will could circulate by RCIA instructions and be shown in the RCC, nonetheless. The priest can get you into those and that they are unfastened. 2: i do no longer understand concerning to the marriage factor. Ask a clergyman. 3: The Nicene Creed is seen the bare minimum perception for all people who calls himself a Christian. Failing to settle for any component of it would rather positioned a damper on the region. Which section do you have a concern with, precisely?

If you are a real athiest, you need not worry for anything, you need feel for anything. Your belief is yours. Others beliefs are theirs. Forget everything. Be free of any feelings. Forget about God and Thiests. Do your work. You fing more to do your work as you need not go to church. Enjoy.

I've thought of revoking my church membership after I accepted my atheism but I never got around to it. It doesn't really matter that much to me.
