They say there's no such thing as a dumb question, but they haven't seen some of the stuff in here! Maybe there should be a minimum age requirement or something. 10 points for what I think is the "Best Answer" to my dumb question! :))

Would you pass your own test?

Hi.

No, I don't think askers should be given an IQ or literacy test before asking anything here.

Not everyone can spell (though there is spell check), and I don't think they should be condemned for that. I think they should be helped. Not everyone knows how to compose a question like others do either. I don't think they should be made fun of for that, I think we should help them re-word their question.

I see so many questions posted on here, and while they don't make any sense sometimes....maybe we should contact them, ask them what they meant, help them re-word it, and then they can delete the question an re-post it.

Why make fun of people? We don't know what kind of background people come from. They may not have had the luxury of hot meals and a warm bed. They may have been abused and not been able to concentrate at school because their bodies hurt too bad from the beating they took from their abusive parent or sibling the night before. They may have grown up in poverty and may be too hungry to concentrate.

See, we are in America. The country where we are supposed to be as a whole. Where we are supposed to help one another.

See, we are all people. No matter what our color. We all bleed the same color and we all have feelings.

I am not trying to down you for your (as you put it) dumb question. See, I don't think your question is dumb, because there is no such thing as a dumb question. "A stupid question is one that is not asked."

See, we learn when we keep our mouths shut and out ears open. We can learn alot reading these questions and answers.

Finally, someone has the courage! I thank you by the bucketfuls for mentioning this because some of these questions tend to shake my belief in the human mind, to the point of derision.

But your idea on the IQ test is a bit far fetched because this is really not a plethora of intellectuals until you look in the right place, and that is not what it is supposed to be. I guess mediocrity and stupidity deserve a voice too, as long as it is not audible.

So let's just answer the good questions and smile amusedly at the insanely daft questions, and move on with life...

Yeah?

Ayerhs.

Well.......that's undoubtedly a practical Qn.....I agree with it! Sometimes ppl do ask Qn which are dumb and many a times irritating as well..Yes...thr ought to b a literacy test....not in the spellings necessarily but I think the askers should have atleast some knowledge of the 'subjectivity'.

A prerequisite adequate score on IQ and literacy tests would sure reduce the volume of questions, although that would be to the detriment of the amusement and amazement factors.

But I really wish there was a way of flagging questions from anyone under, say 18, so you could kill file them - that would do my psychological health no end of good.

Literacy would be nice, but I like the untrammelled democracy here. So I just skip the questions I take exception to. I don't waste a great deal of time trying to translate the gibberish. And I am getting fairly bored with the people who have just discovered sex.

Be patient Einstien. Do you know how many people are even shy to hold a simple conversation let alone ask intelligent Q. I think it is ur duty to educate such individuals. U must be an American. Your expectation of intelligence is viewed from ur environment.

Should they create a "ministry of vice and virtue" here (a sort of online Taliban), so questions and answers can be screened for moral content? Or perhaps screen for sobriety?
Actually, you need to differentiate between illiterate 10 year olds and foreigners who have poor English skills. Sometimes spell check doesn't work.

Only smart people ask stupid questions, such as "Why apples fell from the tree?" and "Why men have two legs instead of six."

That's hilarious! Yes, I agree that there should be an IQ test given. Not just for askers, but for answerers too. That would cut out, I don't know, but thanks for 2 points.
