It's just a state of mind...there isn't some organized club to join.

Actually it is not easy to be an atheist.

Like any other religion, it requires discipline and a thorough understanding about what atheism is all about before one takes the plunge.

As a good atheist one must void all believe in the existence of God. This means that you must believe that you can proof to beyond all reasonable doubt that there is no God.

Then there are issues about the human condition that you must ponder about. One is the issue of evil in the world. If God does not exist, then evil cannot exist because for one to exist without the other is like having a one faced coin. Just like Yin cannot exist if there is no Yang. Just like Newton's 3rd law which states that "for every action, there is an equal or opposite reaction"

So if evil does not exist, you will have to find some other way of explaining how someone can pull out a gun and shoot all the children in the school or when how a person can fly a plane into a tall building.

And this is just one of the major issues.....

Even one of the world's most famous atheist Bertrand Russell had to recant atheism and acknowledge that he is instead an agnostic since in order to prove that there is no God, you would have to possess perfect knowledge of everything there is to know. No one would be stupid enough to say they know whatever there is to know about everything enough to say that there is no God.

Actually the best atheists are those who have been good theists. Just like the best christians are those that have been the worst sinners.

So to answer your question in a nutshell. You need to spend time reading and studying all the major religions in the world and maybe even live the life of a theist before you would make a great atheist.

Err, what?

Well, most of the stories I've heard from ex-Christians (I apologize if you're not one) involve some impetus for their growing doubt, such as:

- Reading the Bible with a critical eye,
- Reading books of philosophy and Christian apologetics with a critical eye,
- Reading about the history of religion.

In all of the cases I've heard of, the one becoming an atheist began to trust reason and to look for knowledge before deconverting.

I am curious why you want to become an atheist. Guess I am answering a question with a question.

you cant become an atheist, but you can cease being a theist.

its not an act of will, you will just realise some day that you dont believe what theists are telling you, the rest is easy.

congratulations, at the time you asked this question you were already an atheist.

enjoy your state of mind.

and from now on, never say "Oh my God", you no longer have a god, not a good one, not a bad one. Is you and the rest of the world, and some of the Universe (in case of alien invasion).

The good thing is, any accomplishment you'll have, is all yours, thank nobody for it. Same goes for failures. Nobody else to blaim for your insuccess.

bye

There`s no such thing as atheism.Man by nature has a tendency to blieve in something eg fate or luck or chance.Religious people will believe the same things as caused by some supernatural power/being.You`ll have to try really hard not to believe in something!!!Er..good luck?!

Decide to be seperated from God for all eternity and give up rational thought for what man considers inteligence. The Bible says that the wisdom of man is foolishness in God's eyes, think about that.

* Hang out with me.
* Cause and effect.
* Keep asking questions about things which no longer make any sense to you.
* Human thought goes through an evulutionary process like all other living things.
* We will be the majority some day.

Odviously, God is putting question in your heart. Pray about it, ask for understanding - ask yourself questions like... "how did I get here?" "What is my purpose in life?"

God will answer all those questions and then you wont have to worry about becoming Atheist.
