Encephalitis or Meningoencephalitis is not a usual disease (at least not here in the Dominican Republic) and it can be caused basically by any infectious agents including bacteria, mycobacteria spirochetes and more often than not virus.

What happens is that the virus swells the brain up in a way that everything else has to be pushed together to make whatever little room there is for that expanding brain.

The only patient I've ever had with that condition was a 6 year old girl, and it took us 1 month to have correct diagnosis and she had a full recovery 6 months after wards, we even thought it was a meningeal tuberculosis (yes that does happen).

It is inflammation of the brain, caused by a virus. If it is caused by herpes simplex virus, it is treated with an antiviral drug, acyclovir. Otherwise, there is no specific treatment, just symptomatic like controlling the fever and fits and looking after the nutrition, hygiene and preventing bed sores. The extent of permanent brain damage, if any is variable and cannot be predicted. Time will tell. Pray and hope for the best.

I know a little,this is tough.

Often comes from a mosquito bite.An inflammation of the brain or tissue around the brain.Very serious. The best doctors for this are ones with tropical disease experience.
One of the best things you can do is visit him as often as possible,as many people as possible.Focus every good healing thought you can muster .Pray and send as much energy through your thoughts to him as possible.try to get as close to him as possible. This "will" work have faith and don't quit until he is well on his way to recovery.Call every friend and family member you can muster. This "will"work ,it may just save his life.
e-mail me and let me know when he is up and doing well.
