A Christian marriage is a bond between a man and a woman that basically means they are a family in the eyes of God. It's when someone stops being a child and starts being the head of their own family unit.

I know that sounds technical but the reasons for entering a marriage in Christianity are the same as most marriages today (except arranged marriages) - love, devotion, all that kind of thing. Hope that helps!

In general, I think it is a pledge of love and unity in front of family and friends with the blessing of the Lord.

In the Catholic Church, it is a sacrament of committment that the bride and groom give each other in the context of a service with readings and prayers and blessings. (The priest or deacon is merely a witness.) Deeper than a legal contract, it is a covenant of love, trust, and respect between a man and woman that is meant to last a lifetime.
