Actually all with burnings came in seperated areas with others around them not doing it. All the areas had rye crops. A fungus called ergot grows on rye. It is where LSD comes from. Those people knew no disease that causes mental trips so they figured it had to be something. See this site on increasing happiness despite crazy things in the world.

From what I have read, and have been told...there are two theories...1) The rye that was grown had a fungus on it, that caused hallucinations and tremors. Alot of people say that is what was to be blamed. 2) Because societies looked down on women who had power, a few young girls decided to stir things up and cause some of the people to get tried for witchcraft just because they said so. In all reality, hardly any, if none of the "real" witches were caught.

20! That is a lie, I am a witch and have studied those events, hundreds of inocents where burned, drowned stoned and tortured to death. Not twenty, some ppl put the number in new england to 2000. But I know for sure that in alem it was more than 200 witches (actualy most of those burnt are just wierd idiots, witches r toosmart to get exposed).

I don't believe in witch craft. So that is irrelevant to me. I don't really care what happend. But since you do, what is YOUR version of the truth? Did you just research this and decide to ask what other people think without really putting much thought to it yourself?

Spoiled children who wanted to get attention and a bunch of misguided Protestants who believed in them. Simply put human beings making mistakes.
