From Germany, gezundtight (spelling is wrong).
"God Bless You"
Originating from the witch burning craze of the middle ages, during torture some poor soul made up the lie that the devil entered their body when they sneezed in order to appease their tormentors and stop the pain.

This was written down by an inquisitor and passed along as one of many "proofs" of withcraft. Several tens of thousands were tortured subsequently until they confirmed this and other "facts".

Other "facts" included:

The devil's semen was "cold as ice"

The devil provided a "familiar" who assumed the shape of a house pet or vermin

The familiar provided the ointment which when applied to a broom stick and inserted in the va*ina would fly the witch to the sabbat location

The devil would require all to kiss his a*s at the sabbat prior to copulating with all in attendance

Babies would be stolen and served to sabbat attendees

After confessing, a witch was further tortured until all who attended the sabbats' were revealed, in which the newly accused would be tortured until they "confessed", revealed new witches, and the cycle repeated itself until whole villages were exterminated.

If an accused died during torture, it was said that the devil broke their neck to keep them from revealing his "secrets"

All property of the condemned was confiscated by the church.

After a short time, public proclamations and court proceedings would be known by the populous who assimulated the particulars into folklore.

Proper response: Too late, the devils in me, I must be burned.

The belief that evil spirits caused your illness which led you to sneeze; bless you was to bring a blessing to cure you. Have a great day.
