It runs in my family culture that we don't waste food.We only cook the amount of food required. From great grand parents to my generation it still go on to be.Even when we goes out for buffet dinner we too "take what we can eat".That the motto of the family "TAKE WHAT YOU CAN EAT,DON'T TAKE WHAT YOU CAN'T FINISH".Got my message & what races & country do you think I'm from?!!!!!!!

This will take you aback. I am a Jain, our religion teaches not to
waste even a grain of rice, and after eating we are supposed to wash our hands in the plate, and drink this water, ensuring that NOTHING is wasted.
You may find it nauseating, but think of the realistic benefits of this tradition.Firstly, food is a symbol of God's blessing. Next, there are many who dont get a square meal a day. Also, left overs form bacteria & viruses, which again is absolutely against the doctrine of Jainism, which is a religion based on AHIMSA.
If you have any Marwari/Gujerati friends, find out from them what
wonderful this doctrine is.
And how do we go about not creating wastage on our plate? By the time you feel that hunger/stomach is 75% full, you start applying brake, first finish whats on the plate, then, if necessary take only that much quantity of food that you can finish.
If everybody in the world tries this, the poverty & hunger can be wiped out from Africa.

Yes. Just couldn't finish the food. Small appetite I guess? But I do know it's bad to waste food so most of the time I'll try and order a smaller portion or share it with my friends.

I eat more than I need, I guess (although mom doesn't agree LOL). A friend of mine works in a U. S. hotel, and he said a lot of food is thrown out because more is erved than people can eat.
