He misses you while you're asleep.

The rest of the time, he takes you for granted.

Do you happen to let him out or feed him in the morning?

You probably set up a pattern for it. Do you get up shortly after that. Try leaving food down at night for it. Cats sleep a lot during the day time so maybe the kitty is saying good night to you before you go to work or school. If it is 4 months old it is coming in to adult hood. So get it nuetured or spayed. That will help make it more friendly. And also help with the screen climbing. Spray it with a spray bottle filled with water.

Stereotypically, most cats are self-sufficient, as any cat owner knows; however, if you are a responsible pet owner and always try to give your cat loving attention, and are not abusive to it, it will show you how dependent it is upon you. I think that this is the time before the cat decides to call it a night. If your cat is like my three, they tend to play for most of the night, and then in the morning want you up to feed and water them. They like to also make sure that you are ok. I emphasis OK! Mine wake me up every morning so that I will change their water and fill up their bowls of food. I hope this helps.

While its true that cats are fairly independant, that doesn't mean they don't want their daily dose of TLC. Most cats enjoy affection early in the morning - they spend most of the night awake, and mine like to take a nap on my lap when I get up early (its our 'bonding time'). Also note that, if you spend most of the day out, then you don't have a lot of time show your cat affection at different times of the day, and it may have come to associate this early morning time with pats from you.

It may also be that they want food/water/to go outside, but just because they have an alterior motive doesn't mean they don't want some love as well.

Your kitty is hungry at 6am in the morning, he is trying to tell you to feed him. But he also does it cause he loves you, otherwise he would just stand in the kitchen & scream for food !

he probably is hungry and in need of attention since it's been 8 hrs or so since he has gotten any attention. my one cat anytime I open my eyes he come up to give me kisses. and some nights we fight over who gets the pillow. I wake up with him grooming me quite often too.

The king of the house has to train you somehow! (At least until he learns how to work a can opener.)
