How long is it acceptable to wait before one can date or Evan think about socializing with the opposite sex after ones husband has died in the act of war. I have the perfect answer but i thought i would ask others what they would think as of something as this because i feel many can feel one way and others another way. Having been brought up old fashioned i would like to know the now facts and decided on the answer before i give my thoughts .

I would personally wait at least a year to start dating. Maybe even longer depending on how I felt. Just depends on the person are they ready to move on? Do he/she have kids, I know if my spouse died my kids would freak out if I started dating too soon. (and I know kids shouldn't run your life, but in this instance you would have to account for their feelings) Also a year is a respectable amount of time. (in my opinion)

This is completely a personal decision and will vary with everyone in this circumstance. You have to follow your heart. Some people do not mind being alone, and others can not handle it. All that matters is she be true to her heart, and let the spouse know that dating again is not cheating on the one who is gone. She has her life ahead of her and should not live in the past, but instead allow the wonderful memories warm her heart on cold nights. -- personally if I lost my wife I would probably never marry again and may not even date.

I like DarthDad's answer. If you're not ready after a year and a day, fine, wait longer. But at least show the respect that these guys deserve.

And a month for a year would only get me 6.

How long has he been gone? I think you should follow your heart. Just pray about it and pray that the Lord will send you the right one that you can love as much as your late husband. And by the way, thank you for sharring your husband with our country to give us our freedoms that are slowing beeing taken away from us. He paid a great price. God bless you.

I told my wife if something ever happened to me one year and one day.

Just like in olden times.

Life is too short to mourn forever.

But proper respect for the dead and their memory has its place.

And military background in this instance is irrelevant

Give it at least a month for every year he has served, this is how it's done in England anyway.
