Depends what your after. York has some good nightlife, especially the Evil Eye on Stonegate which is brilliant for cocktails and is always bustling and plays good music. The Starr isn't bad, The Louther is a decent studenty pub - York has 365 pubs so you're well away really.
The Minster is impressive but don't pay for the dungeon tour - it's rubbish. I like to explore the place, find interesting shops and pubs rather than paying for all the gimmicky stuff like the Jorvik centre. Have fun!
