hmmm, interesting, I did a wikipedia search on almonds and found out that using almond flour is extrememly low in carbohydrates and can be used to make bread and is recommended for people with diabetes or carbo restricted diets. AS ALWAYS, read the nutrition label compared to the whole wheat to judge what is best for YOU..

I did a little comparison though on roasted, salted versions of both and found that in sunflower seeds there are 830 calories per cup, with 119% daily fat and 28 grams protein. ALMONDS-824 calories per cup, 112%fat,and 30 grams of protein. So, judging by fat\protein ratio, almonds are slightly ahead.

So as you can see, these are very high in calories and fat, nutritional benefits aside. the counts are lowered somewhat in the raw, unsalted form.

Look into flax seed/ flax seed meal. It is great added to other foods (oatmeal, etc.) and so beneficial. You may also want to try tabouli salad. Bulgur wheat, soak according to directions (or 2 parts water to one part bulgur), lemon juice + olive oil & some cracked black pepper, set in fridge for an hour or so, then mix in 'stuff'(anything you like, such as apples, celery, raisins, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, flax seed, cucumber, fresh mint, etc. Experiment!) Can make lots and eat it all week, all you want! And be sure to drink plenty of water! Ammo for the diuretics!

Almonds and sunflower seeds are both good for you in different ways. Sunflower seeds have more selenium (antioxidant that works with vitamin E) and vitamin B1 (metabolism and coordination). Almonds have more Calcium and Magnesium per weight equivalent.
If you could only have one then i would go with almonds, but try to have both! :-)

They are not grains. They are hard fruit. Both are very good so eat both but almonds is a little more nutritious. But all hard fruit-- nuts, seeds and beans are nutritional powerhouses. Fruit-- reproductive part. See this site for more on this.
