Your own environment would be a good start. For instance, on a cool day, sitting in your backyard with your paint supplies would be not only refreshing, but also would provide good material. Another idea would be to take a digital camera to a state park or other outdoor area. Your photos can be downloaded to your computer and you can paint them. Same principle applies to vacations.

My house needs a good touch up.
Painting as in paintings I would say the first thing that pops into your mind. Something you love or someone. My grandpa painted and used to tell me that the painting has to be inside you to come out right. So close your eyes and paint what you see. But if you are talking about plain old painting something cause you want to paint , like I said my house could use a coat.

It depends on what style you want to work in. Asking a general question like this opens yourself to a hundred different answers.
But I will tell you this: Inspiration is everywhere if you'll take the time to look. Even a passing glance driving down the road can give you dozens of things to incorporate into a paint.
An interesting face, a twisted weather-beaten tree, an odd-shaped structure, sunlight hitting an object a certain way. It goes on and on.
Just look, observe and ponder the possibilities yourself. If you need to ask perhaps your heart isn't in it right now.

Paint something that makes you happy. Look around... what do you like? What looks good to you? Paint that.
