I understand that the two cities were burned because the people of those two cities wre mass sinners. I understand that what we now call sodomy was the prominant sin in Sodom, but what were the peope of Gomorrah guilty of?
Shemhamforash!

In response to Kevin's answer, I'm not a Kabbalist. I understand the word I use is routed in Kabbalism, but very often words and symbols become attatched with other meanings. Run a search on the word "shemhamforash" on Wikipedia.com and look at the entry under "sources". That is the context in which I use that word. And I understand fully it's meaning given the context. And I don't wish to hear some comeback about relying on user-entered information. I own a copy of the book listed at the end of that entry.
Now you shouldn't be concerning yourself with threats of karmic payback.

The story of Sodom & Gomorrah is twisted ancient political propaganda and spin... but it's since been put to work to defame gays.

The stupid and thick Christians who use the Bible story of Sodom & Gomorrah to defame gays really don't have a clue about the politics behind the story being described...they are truly pathetic dimwits who take the easiest and most ridiculous explanation as literal fact, poor sods!

Both Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because the inhabitants were worshiping idols instead of God. This is a common occurrance in the Hebrew Bible aka Old Testament. There are hundreds of stories of entire towns or native Canaanites being slaughtered for this reason.

The reason that homo activity has become associated with this particular massacre is because the part of the story that deals with the angels who came to warn Lot to get his family out of there before God came to destroy Sodom (where Lot lived). Curious guys from town came to see who the visitors to Lot were (in a time period when travel was extremely difficult and locals of any town would be curious to know who visitors were). One verse says that the guys "wanted to have sex with them." Just as much a part of the story but never mentioned in Sunday School is that Lot refused to show his visitors to the townsmen and instead offered his two virgin daughters to the group of guys to "do with whatever you like."

What kind of dad does that?!?

But back to topic... The fact that people think Sodom was destroyed because of homo activity (and/or sexism) rather than because the inhabitants were worshipping idols is just one more example that most people have not actually read the Bible in its entirety.

Post Sodom & Gomorrah... As you know, Lot's wife was turned into pillar of salt as the family escaped. Later, when Lot and his two virgin daughters were safely hidden in the hills, Lot had sex with both his daughters and each of them got pregnant.

There are also numerous mentions throughout this story and others involving Lot that he was a heavy drinker.

So, apparently, drunkeness and rape of one's daughters is acceptable behavior to those who focus on the homo part of this whole story. Or, they don't know about it because they have never read the Bible.

if you would read the Book (that part's not even long) and stopped throwing out a kabbalistic word you seem to throw out in all of your questions as if you made it make Wisdom, maybe you'd find out.
Genesis describes the whole situation in detail - not the sound bite you gave about Sodom - and it certainly wasn't as simple as what you wrote.
if you know so much about the word you love to toss around, then you must know words riccochet and come right back at ya, and tossed around without wisdom or understanding...

Both Sodom and Gomorrah were guilty of not being politically allied with Egypt.
Egypt sacked Sodom and Sodom and Gomorrah. God, brimstone sodomy and a pillar of salt had nothing to do with it.

Read history and Archeology, not fables.

they were sleeping around and all had Gomorreah

soeaking seriously, bible does not say. First it says that God was unhappy about all the sin in the two cities, then he sends to angels to confirm that, Sodom people try to sodomize them, and then God has his confirmation and nukes the place.
