i have a 16 month old GSD who when he was 8 months old, vomited each time on a 40min round trip bus ride to the vets (3 times in 6 weeks). Each time he had an empty stomach, I dont drive so regular trips out with him is impossible, and we have a useless bus service. When I move home how am I going to relocate him safely when the journey is going to be 2 hours??

Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for him.
Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before he needs to relax. It will keep him happy, but reduce stress. It can be given as needed. It works to relax the muscles that cause vomiting..
If your grocer doesn't carry chamomile, you can use 'Sleepy-Time Tea' as it is the same, but with added herbs. Plain chamomile tastes better to a dog.

Speak to your vet and ask him/her to recommend something to sedate your dog. This doesn't mean that the dog will be knocked out or anything so drastic, just sleepy and subdued and, hopefully, not sick. Alternatively, if you don't fancy this, there are travel sickness remedies also available from your vet. You don't say how you plan to transport your dog when you move. It may be (like me!) he's sick on the bus but ok in a car.

Going to the vets obviously stresses him out. My Shar Pei had the same problem. Try feeding him ginger biscuits before you go it helps with motion sickness.
