Why do we get wisdom teeth?

For your kind information, the wisdom tooth(third molar) is named based on the age during which the tooth erupts. It normally erupts at the age of 18yrs-25yrs. This is the age a human usually attains maturity (wisdom). The wisdom tooth actually erupts for chewing purpose only, no doubt in that. But this tooth very often creates problems like getting impacted in the bone not showing its full head into the oral cavity(mouth). This tooth may erupt in an abnormal direction to other molars which leads to pain and discomfort. So it often needs to be removed. You may be able to manage chewing with your first and second molars in all the four quadrants. Your dentist relieves you from pain and tension by removing the wisdom tooth which has got nothing to do with your wisdom if you really have enough.

Because back as cavemen,we didn't have dental hygene. Our molars would wear out over time, and they were replaced with wisdom teeth. Kinda like elephants.

this is awesome check it,when my bf turned 23 he had already had 2 molars removed when he turned 26he got the wisdom teeth went to the dentist extracted two wisdon theet then he went to his ortho and decided that he would keep the new ones (wisdon theet) to make up for the 2 he had lost

as noslotplaya777 said back in the caveman days when human use to eat a lot of meat we neeeded extra teeth to bite and grind and chew.. now that some people are vegetarian we might as well use denture by the time we reach 20

Because if you spent $1000's to remove them & it wasn't needed & your dentist said they needed to go you lost $$$ or wisdom.
