Because it is the only way to get the vehicles where they are needed. The Army does not have any contracts with civilian HET drivers in South Korea, so driving them out to KTC, or wherever, is the only option.

Because Korea is small so sometimes they have use public roads during maneuvers. In the US they can do all that out in the desert somewhere. Besides, it wouldn't be good if there was a real emergency and the vehicle operators weren't familiar with the roads they were expected to operate on.

why should the government spend money on two types of vehicles, then ship over the ones for combat WHEN things come to a head, instead of already have the equipment there?

That sounds like a huge waste of time lives and money to me.

i agree. it would be better if we all drive korean made vehicals over there. then the north koreans wouldnt know if it was us or their family members coming to visit.
