I hve been running on a treamill latley as it lessens the impact but I find that for the first 5 minutes even after walking for 2 minutes that I limp when I run and it's my right knee that hurts from the front sometimes it even locks for a quick second. I love running and used to run 6 days a week for at least 6 km and changed to 4 days to see if it makes a difference but it doesn't when my legs are warmer I stop limping and I can't feel it much at all should I just keep going for this reason or should I see someone?

If its locking it may be serious, as the knee is supposed to continue moving in a full range of motion and not just stop, or "get stuck."
I had the same problem and had torn meniscus in my knee and had to have surgery to remove it, since then though the locking and cracking have been minimized quite a bit. If it continues to bother you see a doctor, after wards you'll probably need x-rays or an MRI, as you can only tell so much about the knee from the outside.

This sounds like a case of runner's knee. It is fairly common. Then again, I am not a doctor and you should do some more research:

Normally, when a fellow runner complains of knee injuries I recommend the following:

1) see a doctor

2) Wear a neoprene wrap. They make some for runner's knee. Anything to hold the joint in place and keep it warm. You can find them at any drug store for about $15. I wear the Ace brand ones. I don't have too many problems with my knees and I have the wraps to thank. McGregor also makes them.

3) Ice / use aleve. This cuts the pain and reduces swelling.

4) Take a week or two off to let everything settle down. You'll want to hit the pool / elliptical trainer so you don't get depressed. Keep your fitness level up, but avoid knee bending exercises and or anything that aggravates it.

5) Build your quad muscles. They are the shock absorbers for your knee.

6) Change out your shoes. I am not sure what brand of shoes you are wearing or how old they are , but with one brand (for whatever reason), every time I wear them, I get knee problems. Make sure they are running shoes.

I used to have the same problem. I had an ultrasound and an MRI scan on my right knee when i was 16 but the doctors couldn't tell me what was wrong and just gave me some physiotherapy exercises.
My knee kept on locking and making a crunching sounds when i walked upstairs (still does actually and i am now 25)... so i went to a joint specialist who said unless there was pain i would probably have to live with it! My next physiotherapist found that i am double-jointed and i get the problems because my joints are not stable!
These days i wear knee supports when i exercise to try and stabilize my knees... and they work! Good luck

sounds like a strained ligament. you need to rest, take amino acids. See a sports doctor to see about a brace.
