I'd say go with the calendar flow. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter.

Salt is always mentioned first before pepper.

Climatic seasons are arbitrarily listed as Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. These seasons do not follow the yearly Gregorian calendar which we have adopted as commencing on January 1st.

Winter does not commence on January 1st.

In the old Roman calendar September was the 7th month and October the 8th month, December the 10th month. When did Spring begin then?

The question is equivalent to asking at which point does a circle begin.

The seasons are simply a repeating cycle analogous to a circle and therefore have no start and no end.

I think that people tend to think that Spring starts on March1
Summer starts on June1, Fall September1 and Winter December1. If you consider seasons just as some way of dividing the year into groups of three months that's fine it gives you an idea of what the weather is like during those months. So I would say that whoever says that is correct.
Astronomers though have precise reasons for passing from one season to the other. In Spring days grow in length but are shorter than the nights. And Spring starts I think on March 21 (the day and night have the same length then). In summer days are as long as can be and that is the first day of summer (June 21, I think), after which the days start to grow shorter. First day of the fall and the day is the same length with the night (September 21).
Same as in March but now the days are growing shorter.
First day of Winter (December 21) and the days are the shortest they can be and they can only start growing again.
So: the astronomical seasons start about 21 days after we usually consider them to start.
