There are only three criteria to become the president (according to the Constitution). One must be a natural born US citizen, one must be 35 years of age. and one must have 14 years of residency.
Most who have achieved the office have had military service.
The media focuses on the flavor of the minute, and what idiots attend to. The US has become a Survivor and American Idol focused nation. Sad,

PEOPLE who have served understand the fact that the military
understands military situations.
Bill (no show ) Clinton did not listen to the on the ground commanders in Somalia and the result was Blackhawk Down .
In a dangerous world , we need leaders who can work with the military. Our military Leaders also understand politicians and politics .
Media picks sides just as we all do , they can twist a victory
into a disaster with a few words.
Hurricane Katerina is a good example, a cat.5 hurricane smashes
an unprepared state, where the local and state politicians are
jockeying for political position and power.
FEMA has the logistical nightmare of moving men, material , vehicles from all over, to where they can be of most use, in the least possible time , under the worst possible conditions.
Not perfect, not pretty , but done.

There's pros & cons to it. Civilians don't understand what being in the military or in combat are like. They have a good heart, but when they use politics to force things they know nothing about, however good it sounds, people tend to die because of it. You need to leave it to the experts & stick to your own job.
On the other hand, when you're a combat troop you don't know what's going on in the big picture. Serving is no preperation for commanding the entire military in a war. Also, people that have seen the worst of war tend to be gunshy when we really do need to go to war (look at a lot of Vietnam vet politicians now versus Iraq vets starting to run for office).
In the end, I like a guy that has a healthy respect & appreciation of the military, that will understand we need a strong defense & trust his military advisors to design & conduct it w/o much political interference. The place for politics in military policy is to force them to make good spending decisions. A President should decide when it's time to go to war, and what the objective are, and then get out of the way till it's over.
As for Jimmy Carter, that final betrayal of the Vietnam generation was desgraceful & should have earned him an impeachment. The current crop of desserters are volunteers not draftees, and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for betraying the faith & refusing to protect their teammates as they were trained to do. Screw those guys & put me on their courts-martial.

Simply because the card-carrying die hard liberals have no REAL substantial thing to drag a good man down. Don't dis me George W - HE is the BOMB! lol (lil play on words there, ya think?)
Maybe remy_d (sorry veritas) should be president since he cares sooooooooooooo much! You think our president does not go to bed every night with the heart ache of every one of the families who lost a son or daughter? Read the book "The Faith of George W. Bush" and get some enlightenment into a man who struggled with many personal hardships and disabilities to become the man of God that he is. You are so brainwashed, and that is easy to do with liberal militant children who have no family and no goals (Hitler youth ring a bell?)

Regardless of having a cushy desk job the President is Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. Voters like a candidate who's done at least sometime uniform. Maybe it demonstrates that when push comes to shove our President will understand chain of command and will feel comfortable giving orders.

situations have replaced. it is humorous that you employ Quayle's "criminal draft dodging" considering the indisputable fact that GWB did a similar component or perhaps made a guy that changed into adorned and given a command seem undesirable. For that count number, you could admit to a history of being addicted to cocaine and nonetheless make it to the oval workplace! situations are actual replacing. besides the actuality that, I do might want to say that if Biden had stated that he did not comprehend a lot about the warfare in Iraq yet believed it changed into "a job given to us by using God", i imagine he'd were dealt with extra harshly than she changed into even as she surely did say it.

Because no one wants to open their eyes and see the real issues. It is far easier to debate ones morals than to decide whether they're a good leader and decision maker. I don't care if they served in the military, I don't care if they're unfaithful, I care about what decisions they make about our country and how they lead our country.

Because people are sick of Presidents being gung ho for war just as long as they don't have to fight it.
They don't have a problem sending someones son or daughter, just as long as their son or Daughter don't have to fight.
And their isn't much difference between Clinton and Bush, They both weaseled out.
