It could be from a number of artists, but the two most common images associated with famous paintings and squares and the artists are paintings by either Piet Mondrian or Stuart Davis.

Hehe you have any idea how many paintings exist out there with multicolored squares? Well, it's probably in the thousands at least. If you provide more detail, you will get a more accurate response. You'll only get guesses otherwise.

Pablo Picasso and it's called cubism.Oh and this how he paints: studying the form and then splitting it up into pieces and then rebuilds the object. It's a way to study more detailed the objects and other forms.

mark rothko did multicolored squares. I think most of his work was Untitled with a #.
just a back up answer if mondrain is wrong.
I don't remember Picasso doing a lot of true squares in his pieces. haha cubism.
