Taking meds can do it in itself but you want to avoid that as much as possible. Along that same line you could research some natural supplements which lower blood pressure and improve circulation such as garlic, lecithin, vitamin e etc. Then the next best way is with diet/low salt intake. After that exercise is very important especially aerobic type exercise. The more conditioned your heart is the less it works during your normal routine and thus things like your heartrate, pressure etc go down. Also the more you exercise the more you burn up cholesterol etc which in turn results in less blockage and smoother blood flow etc. Then you need to deal with stress and relaxing yourself. The more you stress the higher your blood pressure goes especially your diastolic or resting blood pressure. So find ways to solve problems and take care of your business, then look for ways to help calm your nerves and relax.

The American Heart Association has a Low Sodium Cook Book, that has wealth of info on nutrition as well. Take the salt shaker out of the house. Try using Mrs. Dash seasonings, lemon or lime juices, and flavored vinegars. There is another approach to help lower the blood pressure by, eating more fresh fruits and veggies, more whole grains, fish, poultry, low fat or non fat diary products and less meat called the D.A.S.H. diet, Dietary Approaches to Stopping High blood pressure. Stay away from canned or processed foods which are high in sodium/salt. I've been a lower sodium/salt diet for the past 10 yrs. I'm allowed 4% of sodium/salt in food. Some baked goods have hidden sodium. So READ your labels.

Exercise is one option. Brisk walking, stair climbing, cycling, anything that will make you sweat. Herbal tea which helps you to relax can lower your blood pressure. Garlic is another option. Taken in any form will help.

Is this essential or secondary? Reports say that whey extracted from milk acts to reduce the renin output of kidneys and thus reduce HBP in secondary HBP.
