The problem is that the deeper you go into your world the less contact you have with the real world. How will you ever meet friends or have a relationship? How will you find the girl or guy you are looking for (your soulmate)? Nobody really makes much of a difference in this world by living in their own fantasy realm. The deal is that the world needs you! We do! We need your creativity and optimism and vision of what is possible.
Ever thought of volunteering at a children's hospital? An assisted living center? Ever considered mentoring? Could you teach seniors or kids a few computer basics?
That's what I'm talking about. Get out there and make a difference. That is where the real fantasy lives. Making a difference in the lives of real people who won't soon forget you!

Sure, why not. Whatever makes you happy. The real world is a little too real.
I recommend that if you like to live in fantasy, you might consider writing or doing something creative with it. It is important to have purpose in your life, and all that means is that you have goals and that you you will feel good when you make progress on them, by fantasizing.
Take a writing class and maybe you'll meet other people like you and you'll have some reality to balance things out.

Life is dull because you are dull. Having a fantasy is safe from all of the rejection you might get if you were to try such stuff in real life. Truth be told, you are lazy, have low self esteem and will not take a risk to better yourself. As of right now, you live a SAFE life, a life that is predictable and non threatening. You will also live a lonely one. If your young, get out of that rut and start meeting friends. As you get older, its harder and harder to meet new people, for they and you will have much baggage in coming to the friendship. The good thing about being young is that you can be a complete as*, jerk, freak, charming, don Juan, etc... and test out new thing for fun and not having to worry about having a bad rep. You can ALWAYS change your name and move to a new city. Try it out. Be a different person every year. It's better then the life you are living now. I'm sure of it.

Some fantasy/insanity is necessary in this life.... I butchered this quote from jules de gaultier a put it above my desk... "insanity is the only weapon in the war against reality" it helps me remember to not be so serious in this f**ked up world. Because like you said "my life is so dull". Just try to keep the fantasies in check, don't get carried away and make yourself into the king of the world and start taking people out because they don't agree with you about the kind of coffee you like!!

Because for a person to be healthy mentally, they need outside interaction and a reality check every once in a while.
Fantasy is great for the mind as well, but never let it get in the way of reality. People that see others that live in the fantasy world too much tend to stay away from them because they feel it is too weird.
Don't be the one people stray from because fantasy is your pillow or blanket of comfort. learn to embrace it but know when to draw that line.
I hope I didn't sound too geeky... I write adult fantasy on the side for fun.. lol! I can relate to the fantasy world.
Hope that helps.

Perhaps.
The best of all answers to this question is the novel "Don Quixote" by Miguel de Cervantes. This whole book is about your question, and the answer is not easy, though it is explored wonderfully, with pathos, humanity, sensitivity, humour, wry observation and wit.
It's an old book, of course (the first part is now over 500 years old), and so it's difficult to read in parts. But you can get good translations in Penguin and other classics editions. I guarantee you if you stick with it and read it to the end you will never see life the same way.

Fantasy is ok for a short term thing. But to retreat into a fantasy world because the real world isn't doing it for you--that isn't healthy. You do live in the real world and if it isn't working for you, you need to get out there and change things. Work on your real life, indulge in the fantasy from time to time, but don't take up permanent residence there.

Not at all. Because sooner or later every one has to wake up. If you sleepwalk your way through this world you will find yourself on the edge of a precipice still lost in your own fancy. Dream through this world and where will you end up in the next?

Yes, fantasizing can be healthier and psychologically better than actually doing something. In reality things 99.9% of the time won't and don't go your way. I agree with you completely!!! =)
