having read some of the comments i would like to elaborate. why is it that every leader of a major democratic country feels that they need to ensure that we know they are people of faith?
i think there are a number of reasons but the 2 biggest are:
faith= trustworthy in peoples mind.
atheists and agnostics are more willing to forgive someone their faith than the faithful to forgive someone their disbelief.so much for live and let live.

Christians just want you to shutup and read the bible. They want you to accept what they say as the way to live so that everyone can be the same. They think they are doing you a world of good by forcing their religion down your throat and when you try to spit it out because you're choking to death, then they call you the bad guy and tell you you're going to hell. They're just so sweet.

First of all, let's get the terminology down. God reveals and man observes. Theist (with God), atheist (without God), and agnostic (not knowing). Theist or atheist comes from revelation as in the Christian bible; agnostic can be found in the Gnostic gospels as simply one can not know. It can be argued that agnosticism, like science, can not proof or disproof God existence.

Theist and atheist require belief. There is no man's observation to verify this belief.

Now to your question regarding believers (theists): For the Christian the bible is God's word as spoken by the prophets. This is what the bible says and this is what the Christian believes. The bible contains religious books dealing with what God has done. There is no proof that God exists: It is assumed. My personal belief is that the bible interprets itself, so if there is some contradiction, there is enough information to reconcile itself.

The nonbelievers (atheists) has heard the Christian message and rejected it. They may use logical arguments to justify there non-belief, but logical arguments are based on man's observation (scientific method) and present a straw hat against the existence of God; something that is assumed not derived.

Let me end this with an exercise to the questioner. Believe or not, this issue is actually presented in the bible in the Gospel of John. If you do a word study for belief, believe, believer, and nonbeliever, you will get what Jesus specifically taught about nonbelievers (atheists).

Trust me, stick with us long enough and you'll find that believers get their fair share of the lambasting as well! I wish we were exempt, but we're not and actually I'm glad - because Christ said as he suffered and was ridiculed, so we would be - and it as we are that I realize, I must be doing something right!

enlightenment has been around for 1000's of years as each generation has thought they were the enlightened generation, but without Christ, there is no enlightenment and never has been. enlightenment is just a fancy way of saying "I" get to be my own god and yet by making such a choice, I then get to not hold myself accountable for any actions or have any responsibilities for my choices. History has shown this is the way of enlightenment and its followers.

So, for me, I'd rather stay unenlightened and be a believer! At least I'm willing to be responsible for my actions and accountable. And God was, is, and will be always there to have been, is, and will be doing the same. What greater example do I need.

You must be living in a different world that I am. At least in the USA atheists seem to be able to say anything they want to against Christians and Believing Jews, while if a Christian or Jew
stands up for their belief in what the the Tanach or the Bible teaches, we are called bigots or fascists.

I don't know.
I tell the Christan's all the time, that I'm/were not evil, when they insinuate that atheist are.

I think it's silly that Christan's are standing in way of gays being married. Why should their religion effect our laws ?

I agree, it's like the dark ages for these people, it's kinda funny when they go on about demons. How could anyone believe in demons?

You are very much mistaken if you think that the majority of negative comments come from "believers" and are directed at atheists. Atheists use this forum very often to attack and mock religion, especially Christianity.

religion is not a sack of lies, its faith and what you believe in. Well personally i feel that if a person is atheist then thats there choice and why should people care. its only annoying when they try to convert you and prove their point. i find that disrespectful. i truly do.

One simple reason. Hypocrisy. I have to create fake accounts to speak my mind because I get reported for having an opinion. So, I have resorted to immaturity just to get my kicks

So the gist of what your asking is why can't we just be disrespectful of others who are trying to teach respect? Because the world works on respect, give it and its returned, if not by those who you give it to, then by others who need something from you, and everybody is needed.
