It's a phrase that implies you want the discussion to be as constructive as possible by eliminating the time wasted by others who feel the need to praise themselves or belittle others to look good in comparison.
For example if several fishermen are trying to plan a fishing trip, someone might ask the others to park their egos at the door so that they don't waste time arguing who's technique is better or who caught the bigger fish.

It means your ego is too large and is getting in the way and annoying other people. It means you are an a$$hole. A large ego is like having an elephant in the room, its too hard to ignore. Park it outside.

It is usually used when certain companies or groups like to get a person as a blank CD to burn whatever they like in their minds. It is usually good in sales when certain habits make an obstacle for people to become closers who close their own deals and many other examples. ego is the enemy of change. Sometimes it is good if someone is trying to change you to worse!

When you enter this area, room, what ever the case may be, you are expected to act as an equal in the group. Do not take unnecessary leadership, or think you are the only one with good ideas.

It means to refrain from you egoistic thoughts and open your mind to accept others. It does not mean you are bad, but people just say that so that you will treat them kindly I think and also it is used I believe--when you are being rude or silly about something. I never use that phrase but I have heard of it before and that is just how I interpreted it. :)
