Today I was behind a lady who couldn't get it over 40mph and it takes me 30 min to get where I was going doing 55. I couldn't pass for a long time and I was getting impatient. So I just waited and counted to whatever till I could pass.

You can't do anything except practice patience. You did the right thing. Also, you have to be kind of careful whom you communicate with when flashing lights -- road rage happens, unfortunately. You don't know the other party. I live in California.

That is why it's better to leave early if you must be someplace by a certain time. You won't risk getting nerves frazzled this way. You never know what can happen on the way to an appointment: Get stuck behind a slow driver, come upon a detour, or can't find a parking space upon arrival.

Patience will save lives. I know its irritating to drive behind slow drivers....some behave as they are on city sight seeing tour .
I feel so guilty when I am slow but at times u have to be careful.
So leave early thats the only option, flashing is acceptable.
I thing I have realised is when we are late to work thats the time we speed up. Do we go home with the same speed NEVER. So lil extra time for ROAD ALONE

Usually I would back off a little and flash my lights and put on my hazard lights to show them that I am in a hurry. I have even done the unthinkable I would pass them on the shoulder. Not really recommended. I got pretty upset because they wouldn't move.

I used to live in North Carolina and people there and along the east coast would flick their lights. Most people responded and were curtious. However, I am on the west coast and that means nothing here. People don't seem to care about anyone but themselves when they are driving.

No, there isn't a good way. The best thing is to pass when it's safe to do so. If the lady is nice, she would pull over and let you pass!

I can't think of a polite way. There's not much you can do in a situation like that. Your options are limited to tailgating, honking the horn, or flashing your headlights.
