For example, a teaching of Jesus, "Love your neighbor," etc...

Many questions focus on disagreement and debate. I would like to know what common ground we have (I'm a Christian).

LOL I have no idea---I've never read it. I don't make it a hobby to study the religious texts of religions that i do not believe in. Do you? I can't say that I agree or disagree with any of it. Can you say that you agree or disagree with what is in the Hindu Vedas, the Taoist Tao-te-Ching, or the Shinto Kojiki?

What I believe in the Bible, is The Bible. I believe God created the world in 6 days; I believe He destroyed the world by flood and saved Noah and his family and the animals on an ark; I believe in the Ten Commandments as they were given to Moses; I believe in the troubles of Job, I in the virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, His life and teachings, His death on the cross, His Resurrection, the teachings of the disciples and the prophecies of Revelations - and everything in between.
I don't believe all the watered down "feel good" preaching that is done these days where the "black and white" of right and wrong are blurred into shades of Grey.
I believe that the Bible is God's word given to His chosen to put down for us to read all these years after.
What I KNOW is Jesus did not EVER preach anything hindu or buddist in nature. Why would the Son of God preach the teachings of humans? DIDN'T happen. He taught the Word of God - His life was about His Father's business - plain and simple. Nothing more.
And I know because I beleive in Jesus as my Savior, that becasue I have confessed my sins to Him and asked His forgiveness, and accepted Him as my Lord and Savior, I am saved, my future is assurred. NOTHING is better than that.

For a book that contains so much eternal truths, this is not easy to answer.

Whatever you may say about the Bible, the truth of the matter is that it outsells other books year after year and it is the world's most read book. There is a reason for this. It contains truth about our human condition that have stood the test of time and many people have found these truths relevant to their own situation.

With regards to Jesus' teaching on non violent retaliation (turn the other cheek), even Ghandi attests to it when he led India to independence through non-violent means.

With regards to Jesus' teaching on forgiving someone who wronged you seventy times seven times. There are many testimonies of how people have been freed from their bitterness and found peace after suffering severe wrongs.

With regards to the Ten Commandments, there has never been a better summary of how humans in a society ought to treat each other in order to preserve the peace.

With regards to love and forgiveness being the most significant and powerful human trait, who can forget the dramatic story of Victor Hugo's Le Miserables of how a man's life drammatically changed for the better after being shown love and forgiveness?

When feeling despondent, many through history have been touched by the eternal words: The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want....... How often have we heard these words of comfort at funerals?

And finally, the great Truth that each and everyone of us needs a Savior because we know in ourselves in times of quiet reflection, that indeed, we are rotton deep to the core and we long for someone stronger and more powerful to help us out.

Some religions don't even believe in the bible. I've read the bible, and came to the conclusion that it's the most irrational, ridiculous piece of fiction I've ever read. It constantly contradicts itself, and there isn't an iota of logic in it. It supports murder and public execution. It produces feelings of guilt over the most common human experiences (usually related to sex). Not only does it contradict itself, but it contradicts Mother Nature, and natural human impulses. The whole thing really disgusts me.

Trust and Obey.Everything.I do not however agree with alot of some of the translations I have heard.Ultimately I believe you should love your neighbor as much as you love yourself;have no other Gods before you,and follow the laws of the land.

I believe someone wrote a book that had a lot of rebellious eludations about the war that was being planned against their leaders that were abusing them. I believe the Bible is the proof needed to condemn normal blokes like you and me to death on many occations. And I believe a witch does not float because she is made out of wood.

The Bible Reveals to us what we need to know for our salvations it was written to adress the people of the current time to tale the word of Jesus and Yaweh (God) things in it liek the creation stories are not important for our salvation but things like the 10 commandments are Even Jesus said to look at a deeper meaning in things and if you look for a deeper meaning in the bible you find only what we need to know for our salvation not for historic events

I believe that anyone, anywhere, should be given at least 1 chance to reedem themselves. I agree with the fact that the Bible says that everyone has free passage to God through Jesus Christ...because he died for the sin's of mankind.
