If you "thump" a Bible, then you'd be insulting God as the Bible is his inspired word.

constipation is the normal result, and bibles are tested for ripeness by belting, not thumping, don't feel bad, common mistake

Actually the prophet Ezekiel DID eat the words God told him that he had written down. He said, in Ezekiel 3:3, "So I ate it, and it tasted sweet as honey in my mouth." He didn't get diarrhea but they don't record the poop of prophets so i am not too sure, lol. Pretty interesting stuff.

The term came into use when streetcorner evangelists would "thump" the bible to make their point.
I only know this Cause I use to do it, and no, it is not disrespectful, just fervent...

The only way to find out is to conduct this experiment yourself.
Or find yourself a sacrificial victim... they're always a laugh.
