I'm moving out of town in a few weeks to finish college. I want us to make the most of our time together, but all he does every night is play poker on my computer and then fall asleep. He says that poker is the only thing that takes his mind off me leaving. We got into a huge argument over this, and even though I tried to apologize for binging it up, he didn't believe I was sorry. Now he is coming over and wants a "real" apology. What should I do?

this guy sounds like a manipulator. and you are supposed to say what "im so sorry for wanting you to spend a little quality time with me, as i am about to move"

give me a break. Im so sorry that you have to deal with that. perhaps moving is a blessing in disguise for you

Sounds like your boyfriend could have an addiction to poker/computer. Don't listen to all these other people who think you should dump the guy because of this. If you care about this guy, your best choices are to support his decisions or seek some sort of outside help for your relationship and his addiction (if one in fact exists). It's not uncommon for people to become addicted to such things and put their personal life on hold. Poker can actually become a very positive thing in your life and your bf if he ever gets good. Tell him that I said that "you know you are playing good poker when it feels like work. If it doesn't feel like work, you're probably not playing well enough to win in the long run." Professional poker players approach the game like a business, they spend time reading about poker, studying and learning, thinking about the game, performing math calculations, and use software to do simulations. Gamblers just play hopelessly lost in the hope of winning.

My brother was hooked on the same crap, night after night he sat at his computer playing poker....his wife of 12 years took the kids and left. She filed for divorce, and to this day, 2 years later he still sits and plays poker on the computer....all alone, in an empty house.

Don't apologize!! He should apologize to YOU for putting a computer over you. In reality nothing is going to "take his mind off you leaving", I'm sure that is just an excuse. If he is going to be an *** about you wanting him to spend times with you, then you should really rethink your relationship with him. You should come first, especially since you are leaving for school in a few weeks!!

U shouldn't let him get to u. Instead of playing stupid games he really should spend it with u. U already apologized, if he would rather play poker then to spend these last moments with u, well then he'll see that he messed up, not u.

:)

You could always disconnectthe computer. This way when he came over, he would not have that excuse. I would becareful, guys like that generally are pushing how they feel really away. Which, usually leads to a break up down the road. My guess, is when you leave, that is when a break up maybe forth coming.

tell him to play poker after you've left. what's important is spending time together right now. you don't need to apologize for anything he just needs to understand.

It sounds like he is addicted to gambling. An addict will put his drug of choice, in this case gambling, before anything in his life. Doesn't sound like you need to carry that burdon with you while away finishing school. You don't need to apologize for asking him. You did get your answer and unfortunately the answer was no.

He's being selfish. Tell him if he's coming over to play poker, don't. Spend time with him somewhere else, and if he doesn't agree to, then screw his dumb a$$.
