I really hope someone can help me. I'm trying to find the scripture in the Bible where someone told the children of Israel that they shouldn't "dig by the foot". It's in the old testament, somewhere between Exodus and Numbers. Possibly Dueteronomy. They were speaking to the children of Israel before they went into Canaan. A pastor preached from it, and I forgot to write it down. Where did it come from????
If you aren't familiar with the Bible, sorry. I really don't want any smart aleck comments. Question was posted as "Bible Thumpers Only". Thanks.

And...I'm a little thrown off that some of you "Christians" are offended that I said Bible Thumper. I'm a Bible Thumper. I was being facetious. Why would I be asking this question otherwise? This is precisely why non-Chrstians label us as hypocritical and maniacal.

Are you thinking Deut. 11:10?
"...and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs."
or maybe Deut. 10:24?
"Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours...."
Can't look into it right now, but that may help!

I don't mind the term "Bible Thumper." It reminds me of a story I read in a magazine.
A guy walked into a gas station, pulled out a gun and told the cashier to give him all the money from the register. A preacher happened to be there with his Bible. Hard-cover. He snuck up behind the criminal and WHACK! Knocked the criminal out cold with his Bible. I love that story.
Anyway, I'm not sure exactly where this is found, but Leviticus talks a lot about the foot. If possible, go ask the pastor where it was found.

I think that Kathy J has your answer. Based on what I read in your question, and doing a search through various translations, it appears to be the best choice. It isn't so much a command that they can't "dig by the foot," but that they won't have to, to irrigate their fields.
"For the land, whither thou goest in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs:" (Deuteronomy 11:10)

warfare and Peace...it is the two....wow that became into straightforward. concerning to Joseph's father...the term son could additionally propose grandson or descendant. additionally, some pupils say that Jacob became into his father and Heli his criminal father yet the two have been from David. additionally, some say Heli became into Mary's father and positioned that way considering lineage became into traced by the guy Now the others. Are you rather speaking concerning to the day of the week. Now this would be a susceptible argument. The day does not relatively count selection anyhow. it is what He did that counts. This basically exhibits that the Bible became into written via distinctive witnesses yet all their money owed line up...oh, different than the day i think. gee whiz... i understand you have have been given greater effective questions than that ;) (oh my mistake *slapping brow*...you reported who became into on the tomb...nicely, the two have been. John basically reported one. i assumed this became into the sabbath question) Oh, and that i do no longer think of i've got ever thumped a Bible.

Not sure whether I qualify as a "Bible Thumper...but I did do an electronic search of the King James, which which lists a total of 13 uses of the word "dig" -- not quite like what you are citing. Have a look and see if any of these fit:
Ex 21:33 - Show Context
And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or an *** fall therein;
De 8:9 - Show Context
A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.
De 23:13 - Show Context
And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:
Job 3:21 - Show Context
Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
Job 6:27 - Show Context
Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.
Job 11:18 - Show Context
And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.
Job 24:16 - Show Context
In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.
Eze 8:8 - Show Context
Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door.
Eze 12:5 - Show Context
Dig thou through the wall in their sight, and carry out thereby.
Eze 12:12 - Show Context
And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the twilight, and shall go forth: they shall dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes.
Am 9:2 - Show Context
Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:
Lu 13:8 - Show Context
And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
Lu 16:3 - Show Context
Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.

Your going to have to be a little more plain about what you are asking because there isn't any passage that I can find that's like that. When you say "dig by the foot" do you men dig with your foot, dig by the measure of one foot, dig near your foot?
