No. Islam teaches about tolerance but also to defend your belief, your being a Muslim and your fellow Muslims. Unfortunately, other more hard-line Muslims go to the extreme and totally disregard some, if not all, of the teachings of Islam (same goes for Christianity, the best examples are the Crusades where the Chrisitian butchered Muslims, the Spanish Inquisition where non-christians and Jews were tortured, the genocide of 6 million Jews by Adolf Hitler with the blessing of the Roman Catholic Church and the genocide committed in Bosnia).

Islam and Judaism are no different. Both of these religions came from Abraham. Both of these religions used violence to defend themselves. In fact, Ishmael is the progenitor of the Islamic faith.

I'm a Muslim convert, and I'm honestly telling you that the Muslims who taught me about Islam didn't encourage me to become a terrorist. In fact, they warned me that if ever I try to use Islam as a tool for revenge, they'd disown me.

Bravo abouterachess, you backed up your answer with scriptural references. Islam is the religion of peaceful submission to the will of God. That's IT. It's not terrorism, because it is opposed to terrorism. Fundies are everywhere, and unfortunately, they're the ones making the news, thus "representing" the religion they claim to belong to. Islamic extremists pervert Islam, they make the news, so the rest of the world thinks that all of Islam is perverted and terrorist. These extremists say they're Muslims, but you know, in their actions they are NOT Muslim, they are not anything to do with God at all.

Islam is peaceful, God created Islam, so therefore Islam is good. Terrorists do so much wrong, and I wish more and more people would see beyond the television screen.

If islam is not a terrorist religion, what would you describe it as?

Does anyone have any statistics on the amount of people killed by muslims or for islam?

I am amazed that we live in a world where there is the United Nations and superpower like USA and yet islam has been slaughtering people like there is no tomorrow.

I am shocked at people who go around preaching islam as a peaceful religion. I have never heard so much hypocricy in my enitre life as I see now.

Someone has also written such a long reply of how islam is such a wonderful relgion. It could be converted into a book.

So when we live in such an intelligent and free world, how come islam is known as a terrorist religion? What is the reason that so many people have negative things to say about it?

Why are people such hypocrits and do not speak the truth?

Islam is a treacherous religion with only terrorists in it. Even the women and children are. Believe me my life experience has taught me so much. And one thing is for certain. The women in islam are mean. Really mean women. And cunning too.

I know when we used to ask for water from a muslim, they would always serve it with one finger inside the glass dipped in the water. That was a method which was supposed to pass on their religion to a non believer.

They could not even give a drink of water without polluting it with their body sweat.

Islam is nothing but a terrorist religion. Islam divided our country and stole our land. Raped our women and children and killed our men in the middle of the night. Islam lied to the United Nations and took more land from us.

Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Kashmir are all hindulands. But what do you think happened? Muslims invaded and stole everything they could from India and now occupy hindu land as islamic nations.

Islam is a terrorist religion and nothing else. Muslims come to America and Canada and want equal rights but do not give equal rights.

They have ruined my country India. They have ruined parts of Africa and they still continue their treacherous ways even today.

The true teaching of Islam does not induce terrorism. How about you go on a vacation to Malaysia or Brunei. There you will see a majority of the citizens are Muslims. At the same time you can see Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians live in harmony and work together in that countries.

Islam has since it's beginning been a religion of violence. It was spread by Mohammed by the sword. If anyone did not convert they were killed. This is exactly opposite from the original Christian church. Muslims spread Islam to gain power. Christians spread Christianity by giving up power.
Even today the closer one follows Christianity the more peaceful and forgiving they are.
The closer one follows Islam the more likely they are to murder innocent civilians.

In the real world the try to silence the truth with violence. In the cyberworld they use prepared 10,000 word statements that they can paste in less than 5 seconds.

Ok so I'm going to try and simplify this as much as possible.

The key to the problem facing Islam in modern times is poverty. If you look at many rich, Muslim nations they do not face any such problems that one associates with Muslim nations. These are the countries like U.A.E, Oman, Bahrain and a few others. Due to many reasons including exploitation of the poor by the rich, the majority of Muslim countries face mass poverty, and consequentially a major lack of education. This leaves a lot of room for poor, desperate, uneducated people to be brainwashed, and exploited by anyone who is themselves either fulfilling selfish, sadistic goals or who is misguided by a misinterpretation of Islam. If someone is not even correctly educated about their religion they are likely to be able to fooled easily by someone else. That means if someone tells a young boy who works hard all day that sacrificing his life will secure him and his family a place in heaven, that is an extremely tempting oppurtunity and he, not knowing any better, will undertake the sacrifice.

The poverty, and repression of a hard life leaves people desperate and in search of any escape from the their life. This creates a viscious cycle of exploiting unknowing minds over and over to create a system of violence based on wrong information and education. If that same boy who took the sacrifice knew what Islam really taught and was able to understand what God really wants from his followers then he would have been able to make the informed decision of not getting involved.

After this point comes the action reaction phase. If the Muslims messed up and did something as wrong as attacking the Trade Centres then it is easily blamed on lack of education and simply doing something very wrong. However, it is established that that was wrong, but it still doesn't justify going out and bombing an entire nation, let alone two. The CIA has enough intelligence to target one place instead of the entire nation twice over. Even George Bush's very conservative estimates place the civilian death toll at over 30 000 people in Iraq. As a child, one of the first things I learned was two wrongs don't make a right, then why are educated people killing innocents?

Another factor is that people suffering poverty do not know any better. They do not understand politics and that kind of action. All that is being understood is that they are angry and nobody is taking the murder of their brothers/sisters/mothers/fathers/children etc seriously enough to stop it, so the next feeling is anger and a desire for revenge. I'm not saying that this is the correct reaction, but it is still the natural human reaction. Exactly the same as if I punch you, you want to punch me back. Even when Muslims lobby peacefully, nobody listens, like when the cartoons were published, Danish Muslims tried to stop them but in a deliberate provocation, they were continuously spread and Islam itself was greatly disrespected.

This is why poverty induces terrorism.

Well we must know first what does Jihad means

Linguistic meaning of Jihad is Striving or Struggling
Islamic meaning of Jihad is :
A- Non-violent struggling within oneself for a life of virtue
B- Saying the truth, even if against ones’ own interests
C-Fighting to establish justice, which is a supreme goal

It is clear God says in The Quraan : “Combat in the cause of ALLAH those who fight you, but do not
transgress limits; for ALLAH does not love transgressors” (Q
2:190)

as you see here we only combat who fights us ONLY

and when fighting in a war there are some manners to be followed

Combat orders as in the traditions of
Prophet Mohammad:
– Never Kill Innocent People
– Never torture Prisoners of War
– Never Kill Animals
– Never Destroy Crops
– Never Destroy Infrastructures
– Never Mutilate Bodies of Enemies dead or alive
– All Prisoners Given Fair Treatment
– Women, Children & Elderly Protected From Harm
– Always Bury All Dead With Respect

Quite unfortunate that the world is judging us so wrongly. Forget the complicated actions of muslims. Perhaps, the Quran ought to speak for us? Rather than the sincere one, take up the Quran to study us, they'd rather go and interpret that complex trait of man and tabulate same as Islam.
the world should not forget that just as we are muslims, we are also human. We are striving at the perfection of the Quran. The intellectual who really knew are so silent, because they are enjoying the bashing.
this is a religion that is perfect and many are simply shying away due to weakness but rather than confess to this, they'd rather wait for this kind of a moment to condemn us. No muslim is bad until we hear him out and judge him in the light of what he profess.

It is beyond me to understand how these "religious" people who publicly and devotedly pray to their god facing Mecca many times daily, have the vileness to commit such atrocities to their own religious countrymen and to so-called "infidels." What exactly is the content of these prayers, then?

Addenda: OK, so Islam is a peaceful religion, OK, I understand despite the terrorist minority. What is this business about getting virgins in Islam heaven? Why virgins? Were these virgins practicing Islam? Is prostitution of chaste women practiced in Islam heaven? Or does the demeaning and abusing of the Islam women continue in Islam heaven? Yes, I have read that Islam women are brutal, they used to torture French Foreign Legionaries and castrate them--perhaps in retaliation to their husband's abuse or being subhuman in their culture. I have further read material written by Islam women that part of their genitalia is clipped off, not circumcised mind you, but clipped off so that they will not seek sexual gratification elsewhere. She said she was in pain for a great part of her life. I would equate this removal to the clipping of the muscle main of the male genitalia very close to the urethra, which has many nerve endings and is very painful. Well, I don't understand!! Enough said!!
