In Music 4 beats means four pulses. Music has a natural beat, some times 4 beats per bar, some time 3 sometimes 2 etc.

To help you to understand the way you need to practice the vocal excersises I told you before let's do this.

You need to sing a long AAAA a Long OOOOOOH and a Long EEEEE 4 beats each vowel right?

So, because you don't have any knowledge in Music I will explain you as clear as I can. Go with the A. Sing an A and clap your hands 4 times. Oh oh oh!!! Don't rush! If you clap your hands 4 times, then think is 4 beats, do the same with the OOh and the EEEE. Sing each vowel separate and clap your hands 4 times.

Once you understand it, then try to sing each vowel 4 beats without stop between them. let me show you A(1234)Ooh(1234)EE(1234) = 12 BEATS.

4 beats for A 4 beats for OOh and 4 beats for Ee = 12 beats. That means you will sing and sustain your sound for 12 beats. This excersise is to help you with your stamina and support.

I hope you understand the numbers.

Nown you need to do this and go up and down by half tones.

I hope this can clarify the way you need to do the excersise.

Now, I need to give you this advice. You should find a voice teacher you can read here a lot of comments ideas and advice, you can try your best working on your voice by your self. But the True is: If you are doing these excersises wrong you can seriously hurt your voice. Bad habits, wrong technique and wrong use of the voice instrument can seriously damage the vocal chords.

Please becareful, be aware and be smart. Is better to spend some money taking voice lessons, but your voice will be safe. Many people have wonderful voices but they don't have the knowledge to sing right and keep their voices healthy. The result is, vocal damage, so try to find a good teacher before you hurt your voice. We can not go to the Music store and say Hey!! Give me a new pair of vocal chords!! Unfortunally is impossible!
