I don't know anything about the triangle, but I'm also pissed that gays have decided to use the rainbow as their symbol. Back in the day I used to have a sweet shirt that had a giant rainbow on it. I had to stop wearing it, because I didn't want anyone to think I was gay. Now I can't have any posters, bumper stickers, shirts or anything else to do with rainbows, because then I'd be assumed as gay. I think it's really wrong and selfish of the gay community to use such a public image as their own personal symbol. Thanx for bringing this question up, because I've been complaining about this for awhile.

I don't have a problem with that. What's wrong with using the rainbow as a symbol for love? That's what it is, it's about having the right to love each other regardless of gender. It's not just about sex. And I think the rainbow is a beautiful symbol for love.
It's not like the rainbow can't be used as a symbol for other things too either, you just make it look slightly different than the gay flag. A lot of organizations use a rainbow in their symbol.
I've never seen homosexuals use the triangle as a symbol and I didn't even know that the AA does. And again, it's just a shape, it can be used for many things, just as long as the symbols don't look identical or too similar.

Symbols are symbols. No one has a monopoly on them. I am sure that you have used symbols that perhaps you should put down and find your own. The gays have not stolen anything. You ought to pull your head out of your rear end and really take a look at your life and how many symbols that you have adopted that are all around you. Besides heteros have so many little things that they hoard. They they do not need to use the rainbow. You sound like you have a screw loose upstairs as it is. Planes are hijacked not symbols. HAVE A BIG RAINBOW DAY!!!

Here's an interesting tidbit of history about the rainbow and how it was used as a symbol. In the first world war, Douglas MacArthur was a colonel in command of the newly formed U.S. 42nd Division. It was composed of National Guard units from 26 states. Ole MacArthur made the observation that the 42nd stretches like a rainbow across America. After that, the 42nd division became known as the Rainbow Division. Imagine what MacArthur would think if he could see what the rainbow represents in the US today.

Coming from a former lesbian turned transsexual, please TAKE THE RAINBOW BACK!!! I HATE it!! I think it's WAAAY too "perky" and "bubbly" and "girly". I just cant' see real butch lesbians liking the rainbow thing, but alas some do. NOT ME THOUGH!! Give us something cool like a dragon or something, not a cheesy rainbow!!! and there's actually a reason why we have the rainbow. There's a history behind the gay rainbow flag. Each color represents something. I posted the history of the rainbow flag below.

I don't care what symbol they use. It sounds like you are the one that might be damaged. You might be pissed off because you despise yourself because your afraid you might be "one", not the fact that they "hijacked" the rainbow.
The pink triangle identified homosexuals in Nazi German when they sent them to the concentration camps. Get over your righteous indignation and examine the true source of your fear.

Hahaa, that's funny, but I wondered that myself...it's not fair really. If I wanted to put a rainbow sticker on my car...well, I couldn't. Not without people thinking I was gay...which I am not.... rainbow lovers got jipped here....

I'm more pissed off that the Nazis hijacked the swastika, a symbol that native Americans have used for millennia.

I don't even like that they stole the word 'gay'. They aren't exactly the happiest people I know of. Most seem to have a chip on their shoulder. Maybe they should call themselves chippers.
