Depending on what you want to get out of Aruba. You can go on a jeep tour or rent a car and see the lighthouse, ruins, natural bridge (or what's left of it), the desert/rocky coast OR you can go to the many great beaches. The hotels are mostly at Eagle Beach which is nice. We also enjoyed snorkeling at Baby Beach, but it's a little bit of a drive. If you are just there for the day on a cruise, I would suggest taking one of the snorkel trips. Oranjestad is pretty good for shopping but it gets old after a couple of hours

I didn't stay the night there (we stopped on a cruise).
We did the Jolly Pirates Adventure cruise. They took you out on a Schooner (sp?), got you drunk, fed you lunch, gave you some snorkel gear, and throw you overboard without a life jacket (at least most people didn't wear them).
They took us to snorkel in a sunken ship. they told is it was a WW2 Nazi hospital ship that was sunk. I have no idea if they were BS'ing or not.
I don't know if I would rank this as a family outing, but it was fun all the same.

oranjestad is the position each and each of the commerce takes position and palm sea coast is the position you've a strip of severe upward push lodges. definately palm sea coast will be a a lot recommended position to stay. occidental all inclusive then you fairly have the westin, hyatt, marriott, vacation inn, playa linda, rui, radisson. savour !!! the low upward push is a lot quieter woth lodges like divi, tamarijn, costa linda, manchebo, bacuti and all..
