Unless you can be like them. That is, 'too cool for school', too smart, too talented to be taught. If you are an ordinary person, u need schooling.

As a future educator, I definitely think that getting a good education is an important step to being successful. I would also say that more successful entrepreneurs are colleges graduates than those who are not. College is not just about the classes or the curriculum. It can also be about networking and meeting people who can help you in the future. As some universities are very costly, the key to spending the least amount of money is not taking the classes you don't need for your degree and attend a college in your state of residency. If you start college, and do not know which program you want to enter then you should first attend a community college. For some people, college is not for them- but for most it is. Using your example, many do not know what it takes to run a business. College is definitely not a waste of time nor money if one knows what they want to do with the degree of their choice.

There are many successful entrepreneurs who are drop outs. But there are TENS OF MILLIONS of drop outs who are also "down and out." And many etrepreneurs, not most of them, but a DISPROPORTIONATE number of them, have splendid educations.

So a good education is a better bet than starting a business when you're very young. Besides, a good education (meaning one outside the social "sciences" of psychology, anthropology, political science etc) will also train you in thinking and researching in a way that will make it hard for people to successfully bullshit you --which is priceless.

Unfortunately, American is becoming a medieval bishopric, and successful Americans will let you into the club only if you have a license that says you can sit and get pimples on your *** and not let it bother you, which is to say, a bachelor's degree younger than age 25. It's an inflexible measuring rod.

On the other hand, I AGREE WITH YOU regarding people over 35 who don't have a degree. Forget formal education and put your assets on a business you know about and are enthusiastic about, because the money for education is a waste because you won't pass the test (you're too old for a degree to help you).

Its hella important! Employers look for studious people willing to educate themselves through College and hard work combined. They dont just look for people with the street smarts, they want people with the book smarts too! Bill Gates, Donald Trump...there are VERY FEW people in the world that become that successful without a college education. If a person is witty and smart enough to market a full-time business, then they may be able to get off with a successful career without college, but most people need a college education.

Think about it...with the money most people start making out of college, they pay off all the money they spent in College in less than two years...College isn't neccesarily THAT expensive...loans are usually paid off in less than ten years, if a person is smart with their finances.

GO TO COLLEGE!

The successful high school drop out.... entrepreneurs are very few in regards to the general population...they are highlighted in our society and that is why you always hear about them....take a look around you ...and see how many high school drop outs are...in menial labour jobs and dead end jobs and unemployed. The ones that don't complete their education...may know that they have the drive and intelligence to be a success...I imagine that most high school drop outs are having trouble academically or socially.

Good point. It's not necessarily a waste of time and money, but many people have knowledge that gains them employment in a field that they are capable of earning much money.. So it's up to the individual to decide and if they have the experience, knowledge or are financially able to do it, then college is a waste. I personally know of someone who is only 20 yrs. old and has his own construction business, makes mucho money, only graduated from high school and is doing just fine in the business world. His natural talent is inherited from his father......

well, do you think you could be a financial advisor? assuming you had no college education, i'll bet you'd be hard pressed to tell someone how, when, and where to put their money in order to maximize their returns...

Seriously, a college education gives you knowledge that only money can buy. That is the truth. If anyone could obtain the same knowledge of, say, a financial advisor for free, then all financial advisors would be out of a job.

Just fall in line, make the grade, and earn your keep.

We advance by standing on the shoulders of those who came before us, and that depends on first taking the time to learn what they can teach us, and only a college education can give that to you!

Simply put, knowledge is power; there can be no situation where more knowledge, more intelligence and a better understanding of the world cannot improve the handling of it.

Look at the people around you who lead a successful life, and the thread you will see between them all is education. Of course there are no guarantees, but your odds are better when you know more.

Education is a leaping board to get your foot in the door. After reading your question, you could use some education in grammar and spelling. Regardless of what you do in life, you have to be able to effectively communicate in writing --which in this case, you do not!!!

actually people like bill gates, etc are the minority. most successful businessmen have a bachelors or graduate degree. and if you want to be in a field other than business, then education is absolutely necessary,. these are fields such as health, engineering, and teaching.
