After you pass the aptitude and physical tests you are sworn into whichever branch of the military that you have enlisted in. Part of the oath that you take is to obey the orders of those who are appointed over you. Some countries do not require that their military be subject to worldwide deployment. The United States does. Part of my contract when i was in the Air Force said "fit for worldwide deployment". I did not serve during wartime but i was stationed in Italy for two years.

If you're enlisted personnel, they can send you anywhere they want. Actually, they've even been sending National Guard units to Iraq...and they wonder why Guard recruitment is down. One weekend a month, two weeks a year is what they tell you - What they don't tell you about is the 6 months in the freakin' desert with crazy ragheads blowing up in your face.

The Army (or any branch of service) will station a person where they are needed, and not always where the individual wants to go. Its the nature of the beast.

I have a provacative answer there. I think you can be stationed ANYWHERE in the world at the discretion of your commanding officer. But, you can also QUIT THE MILITARY at any time at your discretion. Somewhere in between something usually works out for people in the military.

Somewhere else? Would it be Hawaii if everyone could pick their own station? IT's needs of the service & has a lot to do with what your job is.

The Army will send you where you are needed. If you want to go there - great. Otherwise you just have to deal with it.
