I have serious allergies. My boyfriend and I want a small dog that is really friendly, wants to be with us rather than independant adgenda, and is great with kids and other dogs. Any one have an experience with a dog like this....I've done reading on "goods and bads" but want to hear from real people. Let me know. Thanks much!

Get a dog with curly fur, like a poodle. they are less likely to have dandruff problems like the short-hair dogs, and less likely to shed like dogs with long and straight fur.

I recommend a toy poodle. They are non-allergenic,highly intelligent and very robust. It is important that you socialize your poodle puppy to it's surroundings ie.(small children, other pets)as this will add to your puppy's emotional health.I was a convert to this breed a few years back when I dog sat for a sick friend. I have dogs of my own ( Rottweilers) & this little fellow just ran the show. When our friends health improved we were all sad to see him leave including my Rotties who were driven crazy for that 2 weeks.Needless to say we went and purchased a pup shortly after that & now we have three(Rylee, Maylee & Gidget).I 've owned many dogs in my years and these toy poodles are my favorite. They are excellent with kids & are just as happy sitting on your lap as fetching a ball or stick.Well I hope I made another convert.Good Luck in your search.

Chinese Crested (the hairless kind) are supposed to be good for allergies. They are silly looking and need to wear sunscreen just like people. The dog in "How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days" is a crested.

Look for a dog with hair rather than fur. WIth hair, you need to trim and brush them regularly, but they don't shed. I would recommend a Lhaso apso, which can be a fairly independent breed, or Shitzu, which can be a little more dependent upon you than a Lhaso. Either can be good with kids and other dogs, it all depends on the individual dog.

Probaly the best dog for this is the dog raised in British Royalty because it has been in the British Royal family for centuries.
The dog is known as the Pembroke Welsh Corgi
There is also another version of the Corgi named the Cangarian Welsh Corgi which is not in the royal family and is larger and not as cute as the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

My best friends have a mini poodle for their allergies. But I have 2 scars on my face from a mini poodle who attacked me when I was a baby. Just watch out for that sort of thing. Good luck!

My sister in law has a hairless dog, small to medium in size. It is called an Inca Orchid, is kind of pinkish lavender with spots. She has to wear sunscreen if in the sun very long. She has had her several years and just loves her.

They say that the chichuaha is the best for people with allergies. I have had chichuaha's in the past. They are good little bitty dogs.
