XXXXXXXXX that's pretty sad to know. Where I work we throw out enough good food to feed the city. Wish I knew you, I'd stock your fridge for life. 10 dollars. wow, that won't cover one meal in our home. we are a family of 6. My heart bleeds for you. Boo Hoo

ramen.
At the right place, it's 15 cents a pack. That's 45 cents a day per person....
30 cents if you're tough.
That's just enough to survive, but I strongly suggest trying to find a couple extra dollars for fruits or vegetables in order to fight off scurvy.
Peanut Butter and Jelly is also a decent investment for long term & safely nutritious eating.
EDIT:
Also, if you can find a low cost bread store, like Holsum, or something, they often dump tons of expired bread. But not always immediately. You can often bribe a shopclerk about 3-5 bucks to check out the old/expired bread. I was able to take as much as would fit in my truck once. I mean I filled the ENTIRE bed of my truck with old bread. And if you're slick enough, you can get day old stuff. Especially things like pastries which don't mold as easy- you could go for 2 months.

Either wait til Kroger has the sale where almost everything is a dollar,( my personal favorite :) or if you have a local Aldi's or save-a-lot. If not check out a food pantry or borrow money from a friend. Hustle up. Ive been there.

If i only had $ 10.00 in cash for the month I would get the basics like, milk, bread ,eggs, cheese & I'ld get maccaroni & what I had extra ,...a pack of hamburger. I would make sure to have plenty of cook books, (you'ld be surpised on how many different things you can make from scatch.)

Look in your local phone book for a "local food bank" or for a church with a local food bank. If you can't find one, call around to churches until you do. Your children are worth it. Don't worry about being embarrassed, to heck with that, they are more important, and the food banks are there to help.
Call such charities as United Way and the Red Cross for help also.
Good luck!

whole wheat bread from an outlet store and peanut butter
They'll get the needed grains, fiber, protein.
Ask around (like freecycle.com in your area) for anyone who has free fruit for the picking from their trees. There are always those who do.
:)

I think that you should try and go to your local food pantry and see if they can help you out with some more food. Good luck!
