The best time to plant is in spring before the tree leafs out. You can also plant in the fall after the leaves have fallen and the plant enters dormancy. It is hardest on the tree to plant it when it is actively growing and moisture is low (summer-early fall).

I planted my apple trees in spring 2001, after the last freeze. It was about the middle of April, I think. I live in West Virginia.

It depends on the type of tree, some get root shock if planted in spring, how old are the trees you want to plant?Details please.Older more established trees tend to be picky about their surroundings(i/e light, humidity, ground water, soil conditions)
