any place where it talks about fornication, because that's what fornication means.

for instance:
2 Corinthians 12:21
lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced.

Galatians 5:19
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,

Ephesians 5:3
But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

Colossians 3:5
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

The Bible reserves sex for marriage. In 1 Cor 7:9 it says if you can't control sexual desires it is better to marry. Also, Jesus makes a point to tell the woman he meets at the well that she is living with a man who is not her husband and she should go forward and not sin anymore.

The Bottom Line
By living with your boyfriend outside of marriage, you’re not only living in contrast to God’s will, but you can also place your future marriage in danger. What’s the ingredient that holds a marriage together? Common commitment and selfless love. That’s absent in cohabiting relationships. People who live together place a higher value on autonomy rather than commitment. Married couples, however, have made a commitment to stay together through the good and the bad. Don’t settle for less than what God desires. If it’s His will that you marry, refuse to compromise by simply shacking up together.

It actually depends on whether you are a Christian or not. If not, then all sin is the same and you are judged by God for all your sins. Avoiding one sin does not make any difference to you, in that case. So it doesn't matter. BUT.. if you ARE a Christian, the Bible talks about avoiding fornication (sex outside marriage) in many places, and if you are not a Christian, I doubt you will look them up. So, I will save my fingers. There are also many other reasons not to 'fornicate'. AIDS being one. Illegitimate children is a HUGE problem in the world and contributes to poverty in America. Men LOVE to fornicate, but they HATE to commit. So, guess who ends up losing? I hope you are not blond.

I never could quite figure out why living together is a sin, but paying a tax and signing some paperwork make the same thing perfectly OK.

I believe the issue is sex outside of marriage, not living in the same house with someone. Fornication is sex outside of marriage by unmarried people. Adultery is sex by married people with someone other than their spouse. I Corinthians 7:2, says"Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife and every woman have her own husband". And Hebrews 13:4 says "Marriage is honorable in all and the bed undefiled, but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge"

It's not phrased that way. Back in those days it was just called "adultery". The term "living together" wasn't keyed until last century.
