Well, Jesus returned from the dead and appeared to over 500 witnesses (according to Paul) to show that he was alive again.
I don't know if this answers your question or not, but one of the main reasons that I believe in Christianity is that the people who knew Jesus were willing to be tortured to death rather than change their story that they saw Jesus return from the dead.
If the apostles were lying about seeing the resurrected Christ, then why didn't they take back their story when they were individually being tortured to death? Every one of the apostles (Except John, who died a natural death in exile on Patmos), were killed for their faith. Wouldn't a liar recant this story to save his own life?
What did the apostles have to gain by making it all up? What good does power, control or fame do for a dead person?
I accept the apostles' story because the witnesses were creditable.
PS: Yes, I have heard the crack about suicide bombers, but the main difference between the modern bombers & the apostles are: (1) the bombers did not see Mommand personally, so they are not eye-witnesses to anything (Unlike Peter, & Paul, who claimed to see Jesus alive with their own eyes and then died rather than take it back); and, (2) the bombers are killing innocent people (others) for their faith, not suffering for it (I assume that blowing yourself up is quick & painless compared with being crucified.).

No, the Bible is not "just a book about morals". In fact, it isn't really about behaviour, at all. It is about the relationship you have with the Creator, knowing your role in the relationship and understanding what the Creator finds pleasing and displeasing.
Yes, just because "whomever" said that God wrote it does not mean that God wrote it. He didn't. He inspired it. The Bible was written by more than 40 men over several millenia. And if there is one error in it, then the entire book is crap. Contrary to what another posted (i.e., it is full of inaccuracies), if that were indeed the case, point out just one and the Bible becomes a house of cards. Yet, over the last 2,000 years, no one has been able to do such a thing.
Also, most people who "believe" the Bible do so only after reading it and studying it and understanding it. In fact, there is a lot of studying that goes on. Ever wanted an Instruction Manual for the human condition? The Bible is it.
And you confuse yourself by expanding the question from the Bible specifically to religion generally. But, yes, religion has been used to control people. Doesn't make Christianity wrong. Money is also used. Weapons are also used. Love for another is also used. Does that make all these just inventions with no real substance? Just the opposite - the only reason they have power is because of their consistent representation of truth.
Read the Bible. Study it. Reach you own conclusion. E-mail me when you find the inconsistency. I'll be waiting...

I don't. The Bible was written by man, and VERY long after any of the events described in it occured. Even if some notes were taken about the events when they happened, there are undoubtedly still countless inaccuracies. Additionally, the people who wrote the Bible were those in power. They would have written in it what made them look good and their opponents look bad. It is not a very impartial text. Remember: winners write the history books. Therefore, everything written in the Bible must be taken with a grain of salt, and, in addition, that is why taking it literally can be very dangerous... (As well as the fact that it seems very pro-animal-sacrifices...) ;-)

Smart men invented religions? I don't think so.
Smart men were studying the stars and searching for realistic(scientific) explanations. While the wealthy and the shady power seekers created religion to influence public opinion and control the masses.
But, yes, you are right, the Bible is a book of morals.

The bible is too accurate to have been written by just a bunch of smart men or women!
There are different religions because most who say they believe in God don't believe what the bible really says so they make up a way to worship Him. Of course God is not really being worshiped by them. Those who obey Him are true christians. The rest belong to Satan the Devil & don't know it.

If someone told me about the bible or God and I hadn't heard it all my life, I'd probably think they were crazy. But, I have heard it all my life, and I am a christian. I guess you just have to have faith. Alot of people say it's hard to have faith in something that you've never seen. But this is different. It's just a feeling that you get. A great feeling. God is good.

the bible had over 40 authors in a span of 1600 years to complete. They didn't know eachother or plan to "enslave" the world. They wrote as god commanded them. thats all. its our choice whether we believe or not. peace.

Because the Bible is correct, one of the most accurate historical texts and the Bible disproved evolution. Debate me anytime if you think evolution is correct.
