I have seven cats and they all purr like mad, and they have't blowen up yet, and no it can not happen, at least I have never heard of it and I have been around cats all my life.

I don't think so. Spontaneous combustion is caused by an accessive abundance of body heat which causes the body to catch on fire. Purring will not do that. If your cat's temperature seems to be elevated, then take him or her to the vet for a check-up.
