A former Christian? I didn't know there was such a thing! As far as I knew, we were all part of God's flock! Sure, there are times when you turn your back on religion and on God, but that does NOT mean that you are doomed and are a former Christian. Just because you have backslid and are not practicing your religion any longer does not mean that you are not Christian. How you choose to live your life speaks quite a lot about you and your beliefs, whether you are Christian or not.
What is worse? Someone that has turned their back on their religion and their God. If you never knew God, you are ignorant to the fact that He exists. Therefore, how can you believe something that you don't know? You can't, and you can't be faulted for that. If you know and you refuse the truth, that is your choice and your responsiblity. You deal with the consequences of your actions then.

Yes we have a great responsibility and obligation. Whether it refers to those who are former Christians or those who have heard the Word and rejected it outright is questionable but the fact remains that both will be held more accountable than those who never heard the Gospel at all. Mainly due to choice. The first group heard the Gospel and chose not to believe. The second weren't given that choice and so will be judged less harshly.

It is worse to disobey your master knowingly and deliberately, than it is to disobey and not do it deliberately and not with intent to disobey. You can't be totally considered insuboardnan,t if your dont know you did somehthing wrong, but a mild punnishment will refresh your memory the next time. So you wont get punninshed as bad, as if you knowingly disobeyed and intentionally did wrong.
The more we do for the Lord and accomplish for Him, the more He will expect from us. The closer you get to the Lord in your relationship with HIm, the more He will depend on you to work harder for HIm. With that will come great rewards.
The Lord knows who we can be in Him, and the great things we can accomplish for Him, the closer we are to Him in our daily walk with HIm. We become less of who we started out to be, and become more like Him, which is what the Lord wants from Us. He wants us to be rightous like Him. It's all part of the Chruch He is putting together for the rapture. The church, Us Christians, is the bride of Jesus. They are the best of the best.

Some people might say someone who was a Christian and turned his/her back on the faith (not just temporarily backslid) might not have ever been a Christian to begin with.
So maybe a former-christian and someone who NEVER knew Christ are one in the same.

someone who has heard of Jesus Christ and rejected him is doomed...
someone who has never heard of Christ... will do so before the judgement... and will have the opportunity to accept or reject him as Savior.
for those who have been given much.. much is demanded in return...
Because Christians know the truth... we are charged with spreading the word... so that all the world will have the opportunity to hear of Christ.. and to be allowed to make thier own choice.

I think that we do have more responsibility. I also think that ex-christians are worse than those who never knew Christ bcoz they left a one way ticket to eternity for another god.

As Christians we certainly have more responsibility. As preachers we have great responsibility. As deacons and Sunday School teachers we have great responsibility.
